Jill Loope Named Roanoke Co. Director of Economic Development

Posted: Updated:

Roanoke County today named Jill Loope as the Director of Economic Development, after she worked for two years as the acting director.

Loope says the biggest accomplishment under her tenure to date has been attracting Ardaugh Manufacturing and its 93-million dollar investment in Roanoke County.  Looking forward, she says the region needs to continue to market itself as an outdoor destination with good schools and a high quality of life.

"We are the largest metropolitan area west of Richmond.  We have a lot of opportunity and diversity.  We are blessed with a diverse mix of businesses from industrial to corporate headquarters to retail and commercial.  I think there's probably more of the same to come.  We have a lot of really great outdoor opportunities that we're continuing to brand and promote with our regional partners and I think there is more of the same on the horizon and hopefully we can carve out a niche to set us apart in the tourism arena," said Loope.

Loop says she believes in efforts to market the region for its outdoor amenities and thinks Explore Park has promise.

"I think Explore Park gives us a unique opportunity to position ourselves for the future.  Destination branding, tourism destination in particular.  I think we will begin to attract people from all over the United States. Because of the amenities this region affords.  Hopefully we will create an amenity or two that will attract people from all over," she said.

In the immediate future, however, Loope says watch for a new development near the intersection of Interstate 81 and Route 419 at Cove Road.  The mixed development will include 252 luxury apartments that will be called "The Retreat."

It is also zoned for medical, office, hotel and other types of development.
