Flu Cases Already Present in the NRV - WSLS 10 NBC in Roanoke/Lynchburg Va

Flu Hits the New River Valley Early This Year

Posted: Updated:

The first cases of the flu have already popped up in the New River Valley.

Nicole Bissell, Medical Director of Schiffert Health Center, says that's earlier than normal.

She suggests getting a vaccine as soon as possible.

It takes two weeks after a shot to develop immunity. Since the local community is already at risk for exposure, she says the sooner the better.

The Center for Disease Control recommends anyone older than six months of age be vaccinated.

There are two flu clinics happening in the NRV this week.
