Nathan Latka, CEO of Heyo, started his career through connections he made as a Virginia Tech student, but some young entrepreneurs chose Blacksburg for other reasons.
"This kind of quality of life like a dense group of people and the resources you need at a low cost it's just a fantastic mix for business growth," says Latka.
Growth that Latka has seen first hand in the start-ups that have chosen the town as their home. One of the reasons that attracted Latka and other young professions is cause of it's price tag.
"The last comparables I looked at in San Francisco downtown a one bedroom one bath is $2700 a month," says Latka. "That's just crazy."
And even though it's cheaper to live here it doesn't mean they have resources. Some of those include having the Roanoke Blacksburg Technology Council and support from mentors through local businesses. It's what many have given thanks to.
"I do stand on the shoulders of giants," says Latka. "There have been so many people who have helped me along the way. What I try to do is pass that on as best as I can."
