The Raiders defense was hungry all game long, and the Bishops quaretback Paddy Cotter didn't have much time to get things done in the pocket.        Looking past an FCS opponent is not something Virginia Tech wants to get caught doing again.
Looking past an FCS opponent is not something Virginia Tech wants to get caught doing again.

Virginia Tech's 13-19 season a year ago probably wasn't underachieving considering they were playing in the ACC with six or seven healthy scholarship players for much of the year. Season two for Head Coach James Johnson includes a solid sized recruiting class of talented players and a renewed emphasis on defense. The Hokies were dead last in the conference in scoring defensive at 74.8 points per game. Lack of depth clearly contributed, but the Hokies made it a point of emphasis this off season. Senior forward Jarell Eddie concurred that being tougher defensively was job one for Virginia Tech in the off season. Eddie explained that while the Hokies were able to score last season they couldn't get enough stops to win games. The Hokies are choosing to begin practice early under a new NCAA rule that allows for it to begin 42 days before the season opener.
