A busy street in downtown Roanoke was closed for crews to repair a main water line.

A water authority spokesperson says it's part of a scheduled repair to replace a water valve. Crews shut down the street late last night until around 8:20 this morning.

Vehicles now have to drive over a steel plate at the intersection of Church Avenue and Market Street.

The intersection will be shut down again tonight starting around 8 p.m. until about midnight.
