Bedford Fire Dept celebrates 125 years on the job, prepares for weekend celebration

Posted: Updated:
BEDFORD, VA -

The Bedford Fire Department has reached a major milestone.  This year the volunteer agency turns 125 years old.  And they're asking the community to come celebrate with them this weekend.

It all kicks off with an antique fire truck parade through Bedford at 1:00pm Saturday, showcasing how far fire protection has come since 1888.  After the parade, families are invited to the Rec Field where they can get a close up look at the all the trucks and enjoy moon bounces, vendors, and other activities.

Then at 7:00pm, there will be a free concert starring the Amish Outlaws.

The department has been working on this event for more than a year and says it's been an exciting and emotional experience looking at what they've achieved in 125 years.

"The thing we take the most pride in is we've never turned over a call in those 125 years," said Lt. Matt Scott.  "There's a lot of pride and dedication in those 125 years."

The Bedford Fire Department is one of the oldest in Virginia.
