Posted: Updated:
LYNCHBURG, Va. -

Centra is requiring all of its employees and volunteers to have flu vaccinations.

The new mandatory policy also applies to medical company representatives, and physicians and other health care providers who have privileges within Centra.

The News & Advance (http://bit.ly/19oqwtL ) reports that everyone covered by the policy must be vaccinated by Nov. 15.

Centra is offering free vaccinations for employees, including contract and temporary workers, physicians and volunteers.

The policy also requires people who have a documented medical or religious exemption to wear a mask from Dec. 1, 2013, through March 31, 2014.

The goal is to protect patients, employees, family members and the community from the risk of flu.

About 6,000 people are employed by Centra from Farmville to Lynchburg to Danville.
