Tough as Stone: Trick-or-Treat

Posted: Updated:

Stone, and his parents, Matt and Kelly Anderson, have spent a lot of time in the hospital over the past year.

"Stone's been in and out of the hospital since he was born. I couldn't even tell you how many weeks he spent in the hospital," says Stone's dad, Matt Anderson.

As they faced some of their tougher battles, they created a Facebook page- Prayers for Baby Stone.

"We've been blessed through his page to have a ton of support," says Matt. "When he's in the hospital the day actually flies by when we're there because so many people are coming in and out."

Right now, the page has nearly 9,000 fans. Every day it gets hundreds of new comments and posts of support, something the Andersons say helps them through their days.

"one time we asked people to just let us know where they were from," says Matt. "That got over 100,000 hits and 8 to 10 thousand people responded. We were going to put a map up, and it was too much."

In an effort to help other kids at Roanoke Memorial Children's Hospital, they decided they wanted to give back by throwing a Halloween reverse trick-or-treat celebration.

"We had some Halloween costumes someone had given us a couple months back and we thought, 'wow, this would be really cool to do something.' A lot of stuff comes in around Thanksgiving and Christmas so we thought it'd be neat to do something at Halloween to help them out," says Matt.

And they decided to tap into their huge support system for help.

"That's why we wanted to do it, and this is about using some resources from his page to help the community. And that's what we want to do," he says.

Their fans have responded. They've already been getting lots of costumes and Halloween supplies in the mail. They'll be collecting items through October 27, when they will deliver them to the hospital.

If you'd like to donate, here's where to send items:
