Franklin County deputies find possible human remains after fire

Posted: Updated:
FRANKLIN COUNTY, VA -

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office believes its deputies found the remains of a person, following a vehicle fire Sunday afternoon.

According to Lieutenant Todd Maxey, the fire took place on Philpott Road, around 3:18 p.m. on October 6th.

Investigators tell WSLS that they're waiting on test results from the state forensic lab to confirm that the remains are of a person, and not an animal.

Lt. Maxey says the vehicle fire itself has been ruled suspicious.

If you were in the area of Philpott Road within the past two weeks, and saw or smelled smoke, Lt. Maxey asks you to call him at (540) 483-6601.
