Roanoke shows progress of reducing carbon emissions

Posted: Updated:

Roanoke City Council makes a priority every year to review it's energy and carbon emissions footprint.

The 2012 report shows a decrease over-all in our community's use of electricity and natural gas.

The council originally made a resolution back in 2008 to reduce carbon emissions by 10% in 5 years.

So far, 9% of that goal has been met.

"The fact that the council has a resolution to try to do this shows that it's a community-wide effort," Roanoke Citizens for Clean and Green Committee, Sean McGinnes says. "It's speaks to the fact that whether we are businesses or individuals or owners of large industrial complexes, we all have make an effort.>

To reach the final goal of lowering emissions by 10% the Roanoke Citizens for Clean and Green Committee suggests more efforts to conserve and re-use of water and decrease use of diesel fuel.
