VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. (AP) - A 24-year-old man will spend eight years in prison for killing a rival rapper at a Virginia Beach nightclub by hitting him with a wine bottle.

A judge on Monday sentenced Lennell Darrell Skeeter in Virginia Beach Circuit Court. He pleaded guilty in June to voluntary manslaughter in the attack on 30-year-old Samuel Dawkins.

Prosecutors said Dawkins died Aug. 25 after Skeeter struck him in the head with a Moscato bottle on the dance floor of Club Royale Blue, which media outlets reported has since been closed by the city.

Skeeter received the maximum sentence, 10 years, with two years suspended.
