Thursday, 11:44 p.m.

VDOT says a possible sinkhole will cause traffic delays on Interstate 81 in Montgomery County through late Friday afternoon.

The agency says one of its workers noticed the problem on the right shoulder of I-81 southbound, at the Christiansburg Exit 118C around 4:00 p.m. Thursday.

That led to notice of an emergency lane closure being sent by e-mail at 10:40 p.m.

VDOT says the contractor evaluating the problem area, estimates the lane closure will last until 4 p.m. Friday.
