The Special Olympics is looking for volunteers to help with the Color Me Rad 5K in Blacksburg.
It's coming up at Virginia Tech this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, October 19 - 20. Here's what you'd be in for: Color Me Rad fires off a blaze of color bombs on runners. It's a fun way to run and run for a cause, like Special Olympics. About 100 volunteer road marshals are needed to help ensure safety on the course and that everyone has fun. "It's actually become a national phenomenon, I guess a trend to do this race in certain cities," said Matt Camire, Special Olympics. "It's just a great time. The pictures I've seen everyone is smiling, covered in different colors. It's just a really good time."
Race organizers will donate $100 for every volunteer to Special Olympics Virginia. The organization says it thrives on volunteer support to provide programs and services to more than 11,000 athletes in Virginia.
No experience is necessary, but all volunteers "should be prepared for some colorful fun that requires a good bit of post-event scrubbing."
