ROANOKE, VA -

3:26 p.m.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Roanoke City Police Department and the Roanoke City Sheriff's Office will add extra security at all Roanoke City Elementary Schools for the remainder of the school week.

According to police department spokesman Scott Leamon, the police department will place one officer at eleven elementary schools, while the sheriff's office will place an officer in six schools.

Leamon says there are no specific threats, but the move is in direct relation to what happened at Hurt Park Elementary School today (Monday).

1:49 p.m.

A teacher found the bullet holes in an unoccupied preschool classroom at 11:30 a.m.

The superintendent says the children are safe and that something like this is the reason for why they have lockdown drills.  She wouldn't go into too many details of what they do for the drills, except that the students are taught to stay away from windows and not be by themselves.

Chief Perkins says there are three things that they do right after they get a call like this:

1.  They call in evidence technicians to come in

2.  They secure the perimeter

3.  Then alert other schools just in case

Right now they're going through security video, and seeing where it came from and trajectory angle of how the bullet went through the door.

Superintendent says lockdown will be put in place until dismissal.  Don't know what time dismissal will be yet.
