Local adoption agencies benefit from #IHeartAdoption campaign

ROANOKE -

A social media campaign is helping kids throughout Southwest Virginia find new homes.

This week the governor's office unveiled its #IHeartAdoption campaign with the goal of getting more kids into permanent, loving homes.

Marge Savage Thornton with Commonwealth Catholic Charities said the campaign builds on the impact of social media, which is continuing to grow throughout Virginia.

"The initial initiative, 100 kids placed in 100 days, there was social media pretty involved through Facebook and through Twitter," Thornton said. "Now that's really the big push."

CCC is looking for permanent homes for 161 kids statewide, with the majority in southwest and southside Virginia.

You can support the campaign by using the hashtag I Heart Adoption on Twitter and Facebook.
