UPDATE: Cathy Bennett sentenced to 18 months in murder for hire

Posted: Updated:
ROCKY MOUNT, VA -

Cathy Bennett wiped away her tears as family and friends spoke. Bennett was sentenced to 18 months in prison. She already served about two months of that since August after pleading guilty.

The former Sontag Elementary School Nurse admitted she was involved in a murder for hire plot in February involving co-worker Angela Nolen's ex-husband.

Her lawyer says it will be difficult once she gets out losing her nursing license two weeks ago.

Bennett will also be on probation for four years after her release and must be on good behavior for eight years. Because of how unusual this case is, there weren't set guidelines for sentencing.

The judge sentenced Cathy Bennett to five years in prison, then suspended all but 18 months.

The judge ruled that Bennett will receive credit for the two and a half months of time she has already served, since pleading guilty back in August.

Former Franklin County school nurse Cathy Bennett will be sentenced today for her role in a murder for hire case.

Bennett helped former Franklin County kindergarten teacher Angela Nolen find a hitman to kill her ex-husband.

That hitman ended up being an undercover police officer.

Nolen was sentenced to eight years in prison and 2,000 hours of community service in September.

Bennett pled guilty in August to conspiracy to commit murder.

Her sentencing begins at 3 p.m. in Franklin County Circuit Court.

She faces up to 10 years in prison.
