Helping Hands of Franklin County needs donations

ROCKY MOUNT, VA -

Helping Hands of Franklin County will decide Tuesday if it will have to close temporarily.

Director Sam Campbell they have enough money to operate through Tuesday, providing emergency assistance for things like electric bills and rent.

They took scheduled appointments today, but turned away walk in clients.

Last year non-profit gave out more than $110,000. The average payment was $150 to help people pay bills in emergency situations.

Campbell says they've seen an increase in people needing help.

Campbell said the center closed for a week in 2012 and two weeks in 2008.
