Musicians gather for local drummer in need of heart transplant

ROANOKE -

He's been a musician all of his life, and played on thousands of local stages.

As a drummer for the worx he's made a lot fans who watch him night after night.

But for Todd Cooper that all changed in February when suffered heart failure. Now he is in need of a heart transplant.

"It's been rough. its been a completely different lifestyle change. From going one hundred miles an hour non stop to a dead stop, it's been rough," Todd said.

As a musician  Todd didn't have health insurance when the tragedy struck.

But a lifetime of making music has earned cooper a lot of love over the years . and now fans are coming out for the "Love of Todd benefit" show where twenty of the Roanoke Valleys biggest bands are turning up their best tunes to raise money to help out this beloved musician.

"It's unreal. there are no words for it. I am humbled just the amount of love that you feel from all of this is a little overwhelming," Todd said.

Sean Deel is filling in on the drums for Todd while he is recovering. He says the amount of support from other bands---playing free gig's to help Todd is the most meaningful way local musicians can help out.

"Music is his life. It's all of our lives and this is a good way to raise money and help out our friend Todd, " Deel said.

Everyone we talked to today didn't describe Todd as a friend, but as family.

"He is practically family to everyone who knows him," said organizer of the event Eric Larson.

Sunday night the family is all there, making music for one of their own with Todd pictured on the front row.

"I'm thankful for all of them. I love them all," Todd said.
