Local Schools Take Part in Red Ribbon Week

Posted: Updated:

This week the Roanoke Area Youth Substance Abuse Coalition is hosting Red Ribbon Week.

Nineteen schools from across the region are taking part in this week's activities.

Students range from elementary to high school.

This year's theme is "a healthy me is drug free" so the activities will all focus on making healthy choices.

Schools are doing everything from having "red" spirit days to playing games that promote healthy activity.

The end goal is to win Red Ribbon Week's grand prize.

Schools will be judged on creativity and how knowledgeable students are about the topic.

Awards will be handed out at the Candlelight Ceremony on Sunday.

For more information about Red Ribbon Week, visit www. RAYSAC.org.

The Drug Enforcement Administration will also host a drug take back on Saturday.

There will be many drop off sites around the Roanoke Valley.
