SALEM -

The Boy Scouts of America, Blue Ridge Mountains Council, in partnership with Virginia Amateur Sports and Sherwood Memorial Park will host the third annual "Fall Into Fitness" event, created for the Boy Scouts to promote health through physical fitness and an active lifestyle.

On Tuesday, October 22, hundreds of area Boy Scouts and their families will meet at 5:30 at Sherwood Memorial Park . The participants will take an interactive group walk to the Veterans Memorial Circle where they will hold the ceremonial lowering of the flag.  Along the walk to the memorial, Scouts will hear from military veterans. When the walk is complete, the group will enjoy a healthy meal.

The walk and hike will be the first steps towards their Presidential Active Lifestyle Award, part of an initiative of the Boy Scouts of America called "SCOUTStrong." The SCOUTStrong initiative promotes physical fitness and active lifestyles and offers participants the opportunity to earn the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award. This is a program of the President's Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition (PCFSN). The challenge is intended to add activity to your daily life, and reward you when you do! To earn the SCOUTStrong PALA Challenge Award, you are required to meet a daily activity goal of 30 minutes a day for adults and 60 minutes a day for kids under 18 for at least five days a week, for six out of eight weeks. Stick with the program and you'll earn an award in less than two months.
