Numbers Up for Roanoke's Go Outside Festival

The numbers are coming in from Roanoke's Go Outside Festival from this past weekend, and it's growing in popularity.

The three day Festival featured outdoor attractions from 71-vendors from hiking and camping to kayaks, bicycles and fishing.

There is no admission, and the intent according to Pete Eshelman, Director of Outdoor Branding for the Roanoke Regional Partnership, is to "Show off what we have here and connect people with those assets, brands and activities ... To connect people to outdoor activities on a daily basis."

This year there were an estimated 12-thousand people at the event. That's up 42 percent over the 8,500 who came last year.

There's no financial information -- because the event is free to the public -- and sponsorship money is designed to be more or less break-even.

One stat you might want to note. Star Hill Brewery from Charlottesville saw beer sales rise from 16 kegs last year to 42 this year.
