Roanoke woman and her dog to model as cancer survivors

Posted: Updated:

The American Cancer Society is gearing up for the first ever Cure by Design event to fight cancer this Friday night at Hotel Roanoke.

Now we introduce you to a woman and her dog who both battled breast cancer.

After losing her mother to breast cancer, Ginny Jarrett has scheduled a mammogram every year since her 30s, but months after getting her annual checkup Ginny found a lump.

Surgery, chemo and radiation soon followed for Ginny.

Then, she made another discovery, this time on her dog, Wiggins.

"I saw a lump right on one of her breasts," explained Ginny. "I was petrified.  I have to say I was much more worried about her."

As a breast cancer survivor Wiggins will walk with Ginny on the Cure by Design stage to help raise money for the American Cancer Society.

It's a cause she feels strongly about since the society helps local patients with transportation and pays for cancer related products.
