Helping Hands of Franklin County donations keep them open

Posted: Updated:
FRANKLIN COUNTY, VA -

A Franklin County organization can stay open thanks to your donations.

Helping Hands director Sam Campbell says the non-profit was in danger of closing temporarily.

After our story last week, they got more than a dozen checks totaling more than $9,000. The director says that will keep them open for the foreseeable future.

Helping Hands provides emergency assistance for things like electric bills and rent.

In 2012 the non-profit gave out more than $110,000.

Campbell says they've seen an increase in people needing help.

Campbell said the center closed for a week in 2012 and two weeks in 2008.
