April 16 and Newtown families talk gun control

Posted: Updated:

April 16th survivors and family members of victims joined Newtown Victims' families in Blacksburg. Both are calling on candidates for the upcoming election to tighten gun laws in the Commonwealth.

They shared their stories, hoping to spread a message of just how important the issue is to them.

"It's something that's going to save lives," says Erica Lafferty, the daughter of Sandy Hook Elementary School's Principal. "I don't think there's a more important issue than a matter of life and death."

"The real issue is not vagueness of more or less gun laws or strong gun laws, but the real specifics," says Colin Goddard, a survivor of April 16th. "The more we talk about the real policies and issues in the middle, the more we realize we all agree. Background checks are something everyone thinks just make sense."

The groups hope to keep the issue a priority as the election nears.
