Posted: Updated:

Renovations will begin on Roanoke City's Main Library today.

The project is expected to last until late fall of 2014 and will cost approximately $3 million dollars.

The new facility will have a lot of space for children.

It will also add more group space to the branch. Four meeting rooms and two large outdoor patios will be added to the facility.

During the closure, other branches of the public library system will have extended hours.

The Gainsboro and Jackson Park Libraries will be open on Wednesdays starting December 2nd.

The Raleigh Court Library will also have extended hours.

Main library staff will be stationed at other branches through out the city to help get people checked out as quickly as possible.

If you would like to see the hours of the other branches, visit http://www.roanokeva.gov/85256A8D0062AF37/CurrentBaseLink/N28BFJVP033JBEDEN.

Two e-branches can also be used during the closure. One is located at Valley View Mall.

Finally, The Virginia Room will be open to researchers based on appointment starting in December. Contact the library @(540) 853-2473 for more information.
