Solstas Lab Partners blames changes to health care for reduction in workforce

Posted: Updated:

Solstas Lab Partners has four thousand employees in eleven states including Virginia.  THe company has eliminated seventy six positions company-wide.  Recent layoffs include 8 positions in Roanoke.  Those positions vary including sales, logistics and billing departments.

Government reimbursement reductions and a shift of independent physicians to hospital-owned practices are reasons the company representative, Rob May, Director of Marketing gave WSLS for the changes.

May says, "We're right-sizing the business to fit the environment.  Our competitors have done the same thing on a much larger scale, obviously in different markets."

Solstas does lab work for Carilion Clinic.

No further layoffs are anticipated at this time for Solstas Lab Partners and May does not believe the Roanoke changes will impact quality and efficiency.

He says, "We highly value our relationship with Carilion and the city of Roanoke, and remain committed to providing services for our physician clients and their patients, as well as opportunities for our employees who work in the area."
