Cure by Design raises thousands for American Cancer Society

Posted: Updated:

The first ever Cure by Design is in the books and organizers are overwhelmed by the positive feedback on the event.

At the fashion show donors helped raise more than $65,000.

Organizers say that exceeded their expectations, because they were hoping for about $60,000 for the first ever event.

While they used the Cure by Design" events in Charlotte and Richmond as molds, making some changes and focusing the night around the cancer surviving models made Roanoke's event a hit.

"This event was more than I had ever hoped for. It was absolutely fabulous.  A huge success and it's because of our models.  They have bonded together, they're getting in touch with each other and they want to see each other again and I think that they really enjoyed the evening," explained Lucy Walton, event chair.

The American Cancer Society is hoping to announce a date for next year's event soon and there's already a waiting list for models next year.
