A former Big Leaguer and Roanoke Valley native has traded in the baseball diamond for the big screen -- and now he's asking for your support.
Billy Sample grew up near Salem and went on to play for the Texas Rangers and several other MLB teams in the 1970's and 1980's -- but this week, he's touting the release of his debut film.
It's a baseball comedy called "Reunion 108" and tells the story of two teams from different eras who come back together and reflect on their days in the ballpark.
"It's a fun movie," said Sample. "The people that I have individually spoken to coming out of the theater really find that it's been fun and good movie. And it's a little different."
"Reunion 108" is currently showing at the Carmike Cinemas on Apperson Drive. Sample and members of the cast have been doing Q&A sessions following each screening at the theater. For movie times visit fandango.com.
The film is rated R.
