When the Innovative Entrepreneurial Community at Virginia Tech first began several months ago, members could never have imagined where they'd be tonight.
Co-president, Dana Flipczyk, explains what it means to be featured live on the first ever YouTube Music Awards.
"This program literally just started a few months ago. So to have something that's so huge already occur to this organization," she says. "Shows people all across the state and county what we're doing and are capable of doing. It shows that the possibilities are endless"
It's a huge appearance these students had very little time to prepare for. Michael Vitak is the Vice President of Marketing, he says Innovative has had just 48-hours to prepare, after they found out about the opportunity on Friday night.
"It's a fantastic opportunity that fell in our lap two days ago. We're such a new program and this is our first big break to get the word out there about what we're doing and what we've been working on," says Vitak.
Since then, a team has been working nonstop to get the details in order, launching their new website, creating accounts on social media sites and reaching out to students at Virginia Tech-- inviting them to take part in their portion of the Music Awards.
"When you're an entrepreneur, you look for opportunity and take advantage of it," says Cody Short, who organized the event. "This was just out of nowhere, so it's exciting."
An exciting event for a team of students who have never been involved in planning any event at Virginia Tech.
"33 out of 35 are freshmen, the others are first year transfers," says Flipczyk. "The majority of us have never experienced something this big before."
Giving these freshmen a chance to shine in front of a national audience.
