KINGSPORT, TN (WJHL) -
The head of Johnson City Schools apologized to the head of Kingsport City Schools after the cities' high schools faced off in a football game Friday night.

A spokesperson for Johnson City Schools confirmed that Director of Schools Dr. Richard Bales emailed an apology to Kingsport Superintendent Dr. Lyle C. Ailshie, "should Dobyns-Bennett have any concerns about game events."

Fans of both Dobyns-Bennett High School and Science Hill High School took to social media over the weekend to share stories of inappropriate conduct between students and adults during and after the game.

SHHS defeated the DB team for the first time in 19 years.

Administrators said they couldn't confirm any specific misconduct.

In response to questions about what actually did happen after last Friday's game, Kingsport School spokesperson Andy True issued this statement:

"Dobyns-Bennett and Science Hill have experienced an exciting and spirited rivalry for many decades.  Friday night's football contest was yet another in the long line of competitive matchups between the two schools.  D-B and Kingsport City Schools wishes Science Hill well as they begin their TSSAA football playoff journey this Friday against Farragut."
