Here's how you can help the Philippines after Typhoon Haiyan

Posted: Updated:

Typhoon Haiyan swept across the Philippines with a devastating blow, killing thousands and displacing hundreds of thousands in a deadly swath that was one of the worst storms ever.

Multiple organizations are rushing to help. If you want to contribute, here are some organizations to consider:

American Red Cross

The American Red Cross is helping to trace families, and you can contact the local American Red Cross chapter.  If you send a check to the American Red Cross, be sure to put "Philippines  Typhoons and Flood" on it. org for local chapter information or redcross.org.ph to donate directly to the Philippine Red Cross.

Philippine Red Cross

You can donate directly to the Red Cross in the Philippines.  The Red Cross there has deployed rescue teams and is rushing aid to areas impacted by the typhoon.

UNICEF

UNICEF is working to help children by providing food, water and medical supplied. Tons of supplies are being sent from Copenhagen.

World Food Programme

The World Food Programme is rushing food and supplies to support those in need.

International Rescue Committee

Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the IRC works to provide hope and safety for people who are uprooted and struggling. The IRC arrives within 72 to begin providing aid.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity is working to rebuild homes in the damaged area. Habitat is looking to help 30,000 families who need assistance.

Operation USA

Based out of Los Angeles, Operation USA will work to send donations directly to relief and recovery efforts.

Church World Service
