Some local veterans and their families are enjoying their new home repairs this Veteran's Day.
About 200 Rebuilding Together Roanoke volunteers spent the weekend making upgrades to 13 homes, including Shirley Roop's.
As a widow of a veteran, Shirley says, she couldn't afford to replace the faucet, the door and take down trees on her own.
"I told the gentlemen that was here I was going to send him my first water bill, because now I found myself just walking by just turning on the faucets just to watch the water run, since I don't have to get down and crawl under to turn it off and on," explained Roop.
After getting a special grant Rebuilding Together Roanoke decided to use the money specifically for America's bravest and their families and to make it an annual event.
