Kat Robichaud heads into results show with positive momentum

RALEIGH, N.C. -

Raleigh's Kat Robichaud will soon learn if she will advance on "The Voice," just a day after she delivered her most talked-about performance on the competition so far.

"Every one so amazing at this point in the competition and I can only pray that people in Raleigh and the people who have supported me throughout this are going to help me make it through tonight," Kat said Tuesday before the show.

The North Carolina native gave a fierce rendition of AWOLNATION's "Sail" on Monday, going so far as to leap into the audience for some impromptu crowd surfing. The move was a first for the competition; and, rightfully so, made the coaches squirm in their big red chairs.

"I was like, 'If she falls over into the audience, there's no way she can sing through that,'" Blake Shelton said after her performance Monday. "And you sang through it."

Jumping into the crowd, Kat explained, is a way she likes to interact and connect with her audience.

"It's such a wonderful feeling to go into the crowd and give yourself to people and share that experience," she said Monday. "Break down the barriers between stage and audience, and just let it be one experience that everyone is having together."

The performance came after a rough week for Kat, who was in the bottom three on her team but was saved by her coach. Last Tuesday Kat showed her softer side by performing Mary Lambert's "She Keeps Me Warm."

That softer side was something that CeeLo insisted was important to showcase Kat's diversity.

"I think that the softer moment was necessary to give people a full idea of who you are," CeeLo said. "But American did not."

This week, Kat returned to her rock roots and delivered what CeeLo branded "Kattitude." In Adam Levine's words, there are seven gears of Kat; with her performance of "Sail," we saw all seven gears.

"Kat came to play today," Christina Aguilera told her. "You were in character and you were serious."

AWOLNATION even praised the performance, tweeting, "Looks like #TeamCeeLo has the right idea! @katrowbeeshow great job tonight!"

Kat said what she left out on the stage and what she showed America is exactly who she is.

"I have a stage persona that I've had for years, and that's just who I am on stage," Kat said. "Performing has always been a really great form of dress-up for me, and I have such a great time performing and being exactly who I want to be.

"That's just the way I like to perform. That's who I am."

While her performance of "Sail" didn't chart as high on iTunes as some of the other artists' songs -- landing at 41 on the overall chart -- she was the highest charting artist on her team. The song also came in at number six on the iTunes alternative chart.

Team Christina's Matthew Schuler received the iTunes bonus this week for the song "Hallelujah," which multiplies his votes by five.
