Roanoke Valley sees smoke from Wythe County, NC wildfires

ROANOKE, VA -

Some of you called us asking why it's so smokey in the Roanoke Valley today.

The US Forest Service tells WSLS that it's most likely smoke from an 1,800 acre wildfires burning in Western North Carolina blowing north.  There's also a chance that some smoke from the Wythe County mountain fire is also mixing in.

However, Roanoke County Fire & Rescue believes most of the smoke is coming from the Wythe County fire.  Fire crews tell us they've been called out to a "significant number" of smoke reports.

The wind is blowing the smoke toward the valley from the south-southwest.  Firefighters say there's a chance the smoke may get worse until the wind shifts.
