Patrick Henry hosts first playoff game in 20 years

Posted: Updated:

This is the first time in twenty years that the patriots have taken their home field in playoffs.

Not only a first for the patriots. its the first time in Roanoke City history that a school has hosted a playoff game.

That's created a lot of hype around school at Patrick henry as they went head to head with Forest Park.

That excitement spilled over from the stands to the cheer section on the field.

Even the patriots best friends were sporting purple, as two dogs walked around wearing purple bandanna collars.

"We've been very excited," Athletic Director Patricia Sheedy said.

Sheedy says the home field advantage in a playoff game gives the team that extra drive as fans pour into the stadium

"Its been so nice to prepare for your second regional game in this decade in which you get to play it at home. the fans who have been so supportive get to come and watch us play."

The fans were there loud and proud.

"It's been a long time coming," Al Comer with the Patrick Henry High School boosters said.

He says its not only rewarding for the team --but for the parents and fans who have worked hard for five years to give the team what they need.

"From the stand point of people who have been involved and helped raise money, to help these kids get what they need to be competitive and get the coaches what they need to be competitive, its very rewarding to be here tonight with this first home football game."

It was a feeling that's quickly caught on across gainer field.

While the game didn't quite go their way, they still had a lot of support at the end of a great season.
