Son of GOP's Berger to run for Congress in 2014

EDEN, N.C. -

Phil Berger Jr., the son of Senate leader Phil Berger of Eden, will run for Congress in the 6th District, according to a news release Monday night.

Berger has scheduled a news conference for Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in Eden.

Berger's father, Phil, has been a key Republican leader in the Senate as the President Pro Tempore of the Senate.

Tillis is running for U.S. Senate. Sen. Berger had weighed a Senate bid but decided against it.

The 6th District is now held by Republican Howard Coble, who has held the post for years but will retire after this session.
