Later Thanksgiving could impact Salvation Army's red kettle campaign

Posted: Updated:

With Thanksgiving falling later in November this year, the Salvation Army is working extra hard to raise money ahead of the holiday.

You may have noticed some of the red kettles already out around town, but widespread bell ringing doesn't begin until the day after Thanksgiving.

With less time between Christmas and Thanksgiving non-profit leaders are relying on certain businesses to let them set up early.

"We just recently started doing that allowing them to put the kettles out earlier and our customers have responded beautifully," explained Carl York, Kroger Advertising and Public Affairs Manager, Mid-Atlantic region.  "We want to make sure we keep our customers in mind and we don't inundate them with too many requests, but we certainly want to help the Salvation Army any way we can."

Last year, when Kroger allowed the Salvation Army to set up before Thanksgiving customers donated $45,000 in front of local Kroger stores.
