A WSLS follow up to the neighborhood versus business alcohol battle in Southeast Roanoke.
The owners of the "Epic Stop in" presented a petition to Roanoke City council Monday evening hoping to overturn a restriction passed a decade ago banning alcohol sales at its location.
Members of the community who are against the change also showed up in force to express their fears about a potential crime risk.
Adam Elsayed, a co-owner of the store argues he is being discriminated against.
"What applies on one store should apply for everyone else. We have four stores that are able to sell alcoholic beverages but we can't."
Members of the local neighborhood watch group argue that another store selling alcohol in their neighborhood will increase the crime rate.
Despite the heated debate, the petition, and the owners pleas with council, they voted unanimously to *not* lift the ban.
