This is an update on road conditions directly from the Virginia Department of Transportation.

STAUNTON (4:10 a.m.) - Light freezing rain and sleet began falling early Tuesday morning and causing icy spots on some roads. The Virginia Department of Transportation pre-treated many interstate and primary roads throughout the Staunton District on Monday. Drivers are advised to use caution, especially on bridges and overpasses which are more prone to freezing.

Here are the road conditions as of 4 a.m.

Interstate 64 - Minor conditions in Alleghany and Rockbridge counties. Clear conditions in Augusta County.

Interstate 66 - Clear conditions in Warren County.

Interstate 81 - Minor conditions in Rockbridge County. Clear conditions in Augusta, Rockingham, Shenandoah and Frederick counties.

Primary Roads - Minor conditions in Alleghany, Rockbridge, Bath and Highland counties. Clear conditions in Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick, Warren and Clarke counties.

Secondary Roads - Minor conditions in Alleghany, Rockbridge, Bath and Highland counties. Clear conditions in Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick, Warren and Clarke counties.

Road condition definitions:

Severe - drifting or partially blocked road. Snow tires or chains are necessary.

Moderate - snow or ice on major portions of the roadway. Snow tires or chains are advisable.

Minor - bare pavement except for isolated spots of snow, ice or slush. Driving with caution is recommended.

    ROANOKE (WSLS) - Part of Interstate 581 in Roanoke was shut down early this morning following what police say was a DUI crash.The accident happened around 3:10 a.m. Police say a man was driving a truck when he lost control and flipped.He was arrested for driving under the influence.All northbound lanes will be reopened to traffic momentarily.
