Winter Weather Advisory - WSLS 10 NBC in Roanoke/Lynchburg Va

Winter Weather Advisory

Posted: Updated:

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon today for most of the region.  The advisory continues until 4 p.m. for areas along and north of I-64.

Areas of freezing rain will continue this morning which will make for slippery travel.  Bridges, overpasses, some roadways as well as sidewalks and steps and patios will be slippery.  By midday, temperatures will rise above freezing and a cold rain will fall.

Heavy rain is possible from the rain today into tonight with two to three inches of rain possible.  Isolated flash flooding is possible.

As the last parts of the storm move through on Wednesday, cold air will enter into the region.  This cold air will allow the rain to change to snow.  The western slopes will see this from 6 a.m. Wednesday to midnight.  The remainder of the area will see the snow potential from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The western slope areas will see one to four inches of snow possible.  The New River Valley will see the potential for one to two inches with zero to one expected elsewhere.

Gusty winds are also expected Wednesday.  A Wind Advisory is in effect near the Blue Ridge from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday.
