The holiday travel season is underway and RDU International is starting to see delays.
The delays are being made worse this year by a severe weather system passing through the country.
Michelle Phillips is traveling to Boston with her mom and sister for the holiday to meet up with extended family. Phillips said it may look scary outside but hopes it will work out.
"I have faith we'll all get there at the same time," Phillips said.
Mindy Hamlin with RDU said 300,000 travelers are expected to use RDU during the eight day holiday period surrounding Thanksgiving.
Hamlin said although the delays aren't as bad as predicted, travelers are encouraged to arrive early to the airport.
Delays to cities like Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, and Denver were averaging delays of 30-45 minutes Tuesday night.
"I'd rather have it delayed than saying canceled," said Charly Quintana, who traveled to RDU from Charlotte.
Travel company AAA said 47 million Americans are expected to hit the road this week.
