A retired teacher and cancer survivor is making a difference for cancer patients undergoing chemo therapy.
Cathy Wilkinson was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer and it was at Blue Ridge Cancer Care that Cathy got her chemo treatments.
While she loves the staff at the center she says the blank walls in the chemo room left something to be desired, so she volunteers to collect art work from Roanoke County students and hang it on the walls.
“When you wait for the doctor you're sitting there waiting and you're worrying, how did my labs go, what am I think and it's great to have something to look at,” Cathy explained. “It can take you to a different place.”
Cathy collects art from two different Roanoke County elementary schools.
