DURHAM, N.C. -

After Black Friday came Small Business Saturday and then Cyber Monday. But today was Giving Tuesday, a day set aside to give back to those in need.

To help future cancer patients, kids at Duke Children's Hospital took part in Giving Tuesday by participating in Google's first Hangout-a-thon, a video opportunity to connect donors with worthy charities.

Google partnered with Mashable for to feature over 24 charities and brands that users can support.

Lukemia patient Joshua Paryz used the Hangout-a-thon to tell his story and show why music helps him heal. The hospital partnered with the Monday Life, a local non-profit that helps sick children feel better and heal faster by improving the hospital environments.

Duke is pushing for donation for a sports and play are for those battling cancer at the hospital.

"If we can rally people and say, 'Look, how we can fund art programs? How can we fund music programs so their stay here is much more fun and healing?," explained the Monday Life founder Joey McMahon. "We use light, color, art and music to help patients heal. It's incredible to be able to use that today."

Joshua said he is happy to help patients and future patients at Duke to have a more comfortable stay at the hospital.

"I'm glad that I'm doing something to help them out," Joshua said.

The Google Hangout-a-thon is a 12-hour video telethon that asks donors to give even a dollar to a charity that matters to them.
