A woman battling cancer gets an unexpected and uplifting surprise during one of her hospital visits and it's because of a woman we told you about Monday, Cathy Wilkinson.
Cathy, a retired teacher and cancer survivor, collects artwork from Roanoke County elementary students to decorate the walls of Blue Ridge Cancer Care.
Earlier this year she picked up a self-portrait of Mackenzie Wernicke from Back Creek Elementary and hung it in the chemo-room at the cancer center.
It just so happens that's the same place Mackenzie's mom, Raquel, gets her monthly chemo treatments.
Raquel recalls the day she and her husband walked into the chemo room and saw their daughter's smiling face looking back at them.
“We were like ‘oh my gosh that's our daughters, that's our daughters portrait,’ you know, ‘we know her the couple next to us they were excited’,” Raquel explains.
“She was really, really happy because she came home all excited,” Mackenzie said.
Raquel says seeing that artwork lifted her spirits at a time she was feeling down.
