LAURINBURG, N.C. -
A man from Rowland has been charged in the brutal death of a college student who disappeared from a South Carolina night club while at home on Thanksgiving break.

21-year-old Demonsha Eronda Clegg, from Raeford was found dead on Sunday -- the same day she was supposed to return to her college, Elizabeth State University.

On Sunday around 9 AM, a person on their way to work noticed a body on Plantation Road in Laurinburg.

Clegg's car was found completely burned out in an area of Rowland on Monday, authorities say.

Timarius Fredrink Baker of Rowland is charged with first degree murder and armed robbery with a deadly weapon, Scotland County Sheriff Shep Jones told WBTW.

Sheriff Jones said Clegg was last seen Saturday night at Encore Nightclub on Highway 15- 401E just over the state line in Marlboro County in McColl, SC.

Clegg died from being shot several times in the abdomen, Jones said.

Friends and family of Clegg are mourning her death on social media.

"Rest in peace Demonsha," wrote Sarah Bratcher-Jordan, who was Clegg's aunt. "I look at the situation and continue to thank God because we will be able to see her once more, whoever did this could have thrown her in the river, or took her to another place and we would have never found her. We are not just losing the old now it is everybody. It is time for us to start praying."

Authorities say she left the Encore club with Baker. They do not believe she knew him.

Clegg's funeral is Saturday at 2 p.m. at County Grove Church in Raeford.
