ELIZABETHTON, TN (WJHL) - A community will come together Saturday night to support a popular Tri-Cities elementary school principal who's battling an incurable disease.

Dr. Josh Wandell serves as principal at East Side Elementary School.   Doctors diagnosed the educator, father, and husband with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.

The average life expectancy after diagnosis is 2 to 5 years, and the cost of care is estimated at $200,000 per year

A benefit concert will take place Saturday night to support the Wandell family.

"Concert for Wandell Christmas Benefit" will start at 7 p.m. at Elizabethton High School.

Organizers suggest a donation of $5.

News Channel 11's Josh Smith will emcee the event.
