We've got a trio of schools playing for a state football titles tomorrow. And today was a reminder that it's not just players versus players.   It's a school, community...alumni..and booster--life changing event.   It's the very fabric of this great land of ours.  And in Pearisburg, Giles high knows this feeling well.  The undefeated Spartans are looking for the program's 4th football title--when they battle Brunswick tomorrow at 430 in Salem. The program receives as much community support and motivation as any you will find, and today's pep rally just reminds us of what life is like at the home of the Spartans.  Principal Jason Mills says Giles High has been a special place to be around this postseason.

At Northside they had a sendoff fit for champions, as the entire school and middle school lined the sidewalk waiting to cheer the Vikings on. Burt Torrence's gang is headed to Lynchburg, where they will take on James Monroe at Liberty university--for the 3a title..  The Vikings won a title back in 2009 and this return trip is special for the mean green machine.  Senior Eric Johnson says the although the team is used the attention that playing in big games bring, this year has been special since it has been since 2009 since they won a title--and he was in 8th grade then.

And in Altavista, Principal Ty Gafford led the school in a pep rally for the ages. The Colonels are also looking for their second title in five years--but no nerves at this rally!--- Just a lot of fun and games..for all involved.  The school has a long history of success in sports programs across the board and Gafford says it's a group effort no matter the sport.  Gafford says it is a credit to the Altavista administration and Athletic Director that the teams have been so successful, and it is truly a group effort. Altavista takes on Essex of the 1A title at noon in Salem.
