Danville man arrested in Pennsylvania on murder charges

Danville Police released the following:

A former Danville resident has been arrested in Pennsylvania and charged with Capital Murder in the 2008 homicide of two men.

Monday, members of the Olyphant Pa. Police Department and the regional SWAT team arrested Arthur NMN Carter III at his Pa. residence without incident. Carter was charged in a seven count indictment in Danville yesterday morning. Danville Investigators had been in contact with Olyphant Police Chief L. Kline in the weeks leading up to the arrest. Chief Kline was prepared to make the arrest upon receiving notification the indictment was in hand.

On Monday February 04,2008 at 6:10 p.m. Officers of the Danville Police Department responded to the 200 block of Jenny Lane in reference to a possible vehicle accident. The first officer to arrive found Tony Roger Howerton, age 55 and Charles Edward Harris, age 53 both of Danville at the scene. Both were unresponsive and it was determined that both men were suffering from gunshot wounds. The City of Danville Fire Department and the Danville Life Saving Crew responded. Tony Howerton was transported to the DRMC were he was pronounced dead. Charles Harris was transported to Duke Medical Center were he later died as a result of his injuries.

Arthur NMN Carter III was charged with the following:

1- Murder of Tony Roger Howerton in the commission of a robbery 18.2-31(4)
2- Murder more than one person as part of the same act.Howerton/Harris 18.2-31(7)
3- Robbery 18.2-58
4- Use of firearm in the commission of a felony Murder of Howerton 18.2-53.1
5- Use of firearm in the commission of a felony Murder of Harris 18.2-53.1
6- Use of firearm in the commission of a felony Robbery Howerton 18.2-53.1
7- Possession of a firearm after being convicted of a violent felony 18.2-308.2

A man charged with murder in the shooting death of two men in Danville has been arrested in Pennsylvania.

According to our NBC affiliate WBRE in Wilkes-Barre Scranton, 37-year-old Arthur Carter was arrested in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania for pre-meditated murder.

This stems from the death of two men, Tony Howerton and Charles Harris.

Both men were found shot in a car along Jenny Lane in Danville near the Goodyear Golf Club in February 2008.

Carter is expected to be extradited back to Danville.
