RALEIGH, N.C. -

Maybe all you want for Christmas is a cute kitty cat.

And if so, a local shelter is adding a little festive incentive to help find the survivors of last month's hoarding case a home.

One of those cats is Fulton, who was brought to Safe Haven for Cats in Raleigh. Fulton was rescued in the Calvin's Paws hoarding case in which most of the cats did not survive.

"He was such a mess," said Pam Miller, the founder of Safe Haven.

But Fulton is now Miller's favorite success story after a remarkable recovery.

Miller said the "lucky eight" have recovered well overall, and three already have been adopted.

The rest are still waiting – including Gunnison. She said Gunnison was dirty, hungry and scared when arriving, and also had an upper respiratory virus.

After a few weeks of rehabilitation, Gunnison is now healthy.

Three of the cats have ringworm, which is a fungus.

Miller said ringworm is "totally treatable, but really, really contagious to other cats."

The cats will be available for adoption by the New Year. All will be ready for a family that can now take advantage of the shelter's "Twas the Week Before Christmas" adoption event.

All the cats here are on special - $25. That gets you a cat that has already been spayed or neutered, microchipped and tested for feline leukemia and FIV.

Safe Haven houses up to 90 cats, from the feisty kittens to the more laid-back mature cat. That's a reminder of the cat over-population and the need for families to give them homes.

So there is plenty of hope for the eight cats that came from Calvin's Paws.

"It's looking up for them for sure," Miller said.

The Safe Haven adoption event runs through Christmas Eve.
