Franklin County students excel in national math competition

Posted: Updated:
Several Franklin County School students place in the top percent in a national math competition.

Recently, the Department of Education increased the intensity of math testing in 2011. Franklin County school leaders took on that challenge and their efforts are paying off.

The school had 150 students compete in the 'Noetic Learning Math Congest.' The contest encourages students to be interested in math.

Franklin County had 11 students win the National Honor Status, which means they are in the top 10% in their grade level in the nation.

While, 136 students were awarded the National Honorable Mention status.

"It's very exciting that we had this amount of students interested in competing at such a rigorous level," Gifted Program Coordinator Jodie Robinson says. "It's not easy thing to do and it's always something additional. They are spending some of their extra time to compete in this contest."
